Rally

Group pre-orders for Shopify, with store credit back.

A store sets unit goals for a pre-order. Shoppers see progress on the product page. When the campaign closes, every buyer receives the store credit the goals unlocked.

  • In progress

The problem

Bigger batches cost less. Passing the saving on costs the store.

A manufacturer’s unit price falls as the batch grows, but a store selling on pre-order does not know the final count until orders close. The usual ways to pass the saving to buyers both cost the store: hold card authorizations open until the count is in, or refund the difference later and pay fees on every refund.

Rally pays the saving back as store credit instead. We built it for NovelKeys’ group buys, where the original version, MOQ-rebate, has run real campaigns.

What we built

Goals, a live bar, and a payout.

  • Goals and rewards

The store sets unit goals and the credit each one unlocks. Goals stack: 500 sold for $3 back on each unit, then 1,000 sold for $4 more.

  • A progress bar on the product page

A theme block shows live progress toward each goal. It can take on the store’s own colors and type.

  • An early-order reward

An optional fixed credit for customers who order within a set window.

  • Close and pay out

At the close, Rally shows a per-customer breakdown of what each buyer is owed, then issues one store credit per customer through Shopify. Canceled and refunded orders drop out of the count.

How it works

From campaign to store credit.

  1. The store creates a campaign: the products, the goals and the credit each goal unlocks.
  2. Shoppers pre-order at the normal price. Each paid order moves the bar.
  3. At the close, the store reviews what each buyer is owed.
  4. The store confirms, and Rally issues store credit to every buyer.

Sample numbers

Try the numbers.

Every buyer pays the normal price at checkout. Each goal the campaign reaches adds store credit on every unit a buyer ordered.

Sample numbers: 500 sold unlocks $3 back on each one; 1,000 sold adds $4, for $7 in all. Nothing here is sent anywhere.

Where it stands

In progress. From MOQ-rebate to Rally.

  1. MOQ-rebateBuilt inside NovelKeys, an online keyboard retailer, to run its group buys, paying the volume saving back as store credit.
  2. Split outOther stores run group buys the same way, so we split it out: each store kept separate, in its own currency and timezone, with its own billing and a progress bar on the storefront.
  3. RallyThe same idea, for any Shopify store. Now being made ready for any store to install.
